One PC Multi-User System

Q: What is Hishare?
A: Hishare software is a product designed to reduce your cost of buying computers and to maximize your computer's utilization. With Hishare, two to four users are enabled to share the only one computer's applications and resources. All these users can select and run different programs simultaneously, under standard Windows 2000 Professional or Server, and Windows XP Home or Professional Edition.

Q: What can I benefit from Hishare system?
A: By reducing your initial investment in computers and the cost of upgrading and maintaining, Hishare can save you a large amount of money. Especially in the place where a quantity of computers are needed, the "Total Cost of Ownership" will decrease significantly.

Q: Besides the Hishare software, what hardware is required for the One-PC-Multi-User System?
A: To setup the Hishare system, you need a PCI display card for each monitor and USB/ PS2 converter to connect keyboard and mouse.

Q: Can I setup Hishare system by myself?
A: Yes, you can. The User's Manual provides all information of installation. Before you install the software, make sure that you have all required hardware ready.

Q: Is there any hardware requirements for host PC in Hishare system?
A: We provide the minimum and recommended requirements on CPU and RAM for your reference. For details, refer to the User's Manual or the product package.

Q: Can I use AGP display card instead of PCI display card?
A: AGP display card can be applied for the host PC, while Hishare additional stations require PCI display cards.

Q: How many additional stations can be attached to the host PC?
A: It depends on how many PCI slots you may have in the host PC, because one additional monitor requires one more VGA card (display card). Usually, there are three PCI slots on a computer available for three VGA cards. Therefore, including the host PC, Hishare system can totally support four monitors for four users.

Q: Is it possible that all users browse the website at the same time?
A: Yes, it is. Different users can visit different websites at the same time. The host pc just needs one ISP account to access the Internet without extra cost.

Q: I have other peripheral devices, such as CD ROM, printer etc. Can they be shared?
A: Yes, they can be shared by all users.

Q: When all users are using the same applications, will the delay occur?
A: With the recommended configuration for Hishare, the environment has been tested to run smoothly without any delay. So users can perform the same application and work on their task simultaneously.

Q: Can different users save the same file at the same time?
A: It depends on the privilege authorized by the application. Some applications will offer full read and write privileges to the first user who accesses the file; the other users may only have read privilege.

Q: Can I run Hishare system in Windows NT, Windows 98 or Windows ME?
A: No. Windows NT, Windows 98 and Windows ME cannot support Hishare system. Hishare system is developed on the basis of Windows 2000 and XP.

Q: Can we set up a LAN with additional stations under the Hishare system?
A: Yes. You can build a network with the stations using Hishare in Windows 2000 and XP. The only thing you need to do is to build a network node. All users in one unit can log in the network and use their own user names and passwords with one network card and one IP address.

Q: What is the maximum USB cable length and video cable length for Hishare system?
A: The maximum of USB cable and video cable length are both 15 meters. For every 5-meter, it requires one USB hub.

Q: Is there any solution to prevent users on the additional stations from shutting down the computer?
A: After the installation of Hishare, the Shut Down option for all additional stations will be automatically disabled. Only the administrator has the right to shut down the system. Even if the Shut Down option is enabled, the user on additional station can only log off his or her own station.

Q: If the PCI slots on main board are not enough for installing all Hishare workstation's display cards, What can I do?
A: Change the Host PC's display adapter to AGP double head display adapter. So that one slot can be available for to workstation.

Q: Do I need to apply more IP addresses for the additional stations? Does it support the applications that need independent IP address?
A: In Hishare system only host PC need an IP address, all additional stations can share this IP address to surf the Internet and build their own email box. But Hishare doesn't support the applications that need independent IP address.

Q: Hishare Host PC and additional stations have their own display cards, keyboards, and mice. Can them also play audio respectively?
A: Yes. Hishare Host PC can play audio with its own audio adapter, while the workstation can independently play audio with USB audio device.

Q: I installed AGP display card for host PC and PCI display cards for additional stations. When I start the computer, the host PC display screen appears from a PCI display card. How to make it appear from the AGP display card? Under this situation, can I install Hishare software successfully?
A: You can set the AGP as the main display card in main board CMOS. For details, see the manual of the main board. In case host PC starts up to display from PCI display card, Hishare can also be installed successfully. After finishing Hishare installation, host PC still regards AGP display card as the main display card. For related information, refer to the page 7 of the User's Manual.

Q: Some applications cannot be installed and run on additional stations. Why?
A: It's because that Windows 2000/XP has User Management function. You can check the authorization of the station in the directory of Management/User Management, and change it to the Administrator status, so that additional stations can have the administrator's right to install and run the applications. If still not, check if the application supports multi-user or not. (e.g. the RISING firewall, installed on host pc, cannot be used on additional stations.)
